This great song was written by Blossom Dearie. Irene sings it better than anything ("Better Than Anything" is the name of one of Irene's albums). Irene died very young unfortunately. One of her biggest fans was Carmen McRae who wrote the liner notes for this album. Her unaffected simple and tasteful style makes her a must, as Carmen said, for anyone who loves beauty. Buy this album. You won't regret it. Every song is marvelous. Cheers. Oh... Jodie, Irene's daughter, tells me there's a new album available now... called Second Chance. Google "Irene Kral Second Chance." Or buy it here, as Jodi suggests: http://www.wherehouse.com/music/product-detail.jsp?id=2930092

I used to have the album where she was backed by Herb Pomeroy and let it go. Damn!

It must have been great. As you can see from the notes above, McRae was a huge fan of Irene's and wrote the liner notes for this great album which also has a wonderful version of Where Is Love? She has a lot of the younger Carmen's sweetness for sure.

I first heard Irene sing with Maynard's Birdland Dreamband c. 1956-57. I loved to hear her do "Lazy Afternoon". It was do very haunting. Larry Bunker would switch to vibes and it was just beautiful. I hear light touches of Carmen McRae when she sings. Anyone agree?

A great album, which I have owned since the early 80's. As I listen to the CD now, I am once again, so impressed. My intro to both Irene Kral and Alan Broadbent, Loved it all these years.

@caratamity I think Carmen McRae wrote something like that on the liner notes for this album.

Yes, better than anything. She is so original and pure, especially in today's music. Yes, if someone loves beauty, must listen to her.
