" You Could Have Been A Lady" was originally a hit for Hot Chocolate in 1971. Later covered by Canadian band, April Wine.

Nice to find out who did the original.Of course the April Wine version introduced this song to the Billboard and Cashbox top 40.

There are two versions of this song both by Hot Chocolate, the other is more faster paced. I prefer this version though!

April Wine's version brought me here. Now I know how incredible these guys are?!! Our shipper used to sing "I believe in MALECALL" for years and everyone wold laugh AT him but never told him the words are actually " I believe in MIRACLES". Everyone was a winner!!!!

April Wine's version blows this one away. But if it wasn't for this one, there's wouldn't exist.

@andmaketherain Its the british Mick Jackson(not the king of pop) who wrote "Blame it on the Boogie".

Andmaketherain

The Jackson's song "Blame it on the Boogie" totally stole this song.

Where did you get your artist bio from? Tony Connor was not part of the original line-up. Ian King was the original drummer. Connor replaced him in 1973.

@apwminis Um, no. You made four errors: One, it wasn't Michael Jackson--it was The Jacksons who sang that song. Two, THEIR PRODUCERS stole the song--The Jacksons themselves didn't steal it, and only sang what got put in front of them. Three, Mick Jackson (real name: Michael Jackson, ironically) wrote the song "Blame It On The Boogie." The chorus' melody for "Blame it on the Boogie" has a faster tempo and a transposition to a higher key, so technically, it is different--but I see your point.

This is the original 1971 version, without the ridiculous horns of the greatest hits version. Just raw and awesome.
