Horslips -I see the last black swan

Fly past the sun.

I wish I too, were gone

Back home again.

It seems our fortunes lied

Despite our gain.

Our tears fall like our pride.

We cry in shame.

Now we've got time to kill!

Kill the shadows on our skin.

Kill the fire that burns within.

Killing time, my friend.

I stare into your eyes.

But can't see far.

You cut me down to size.

You bring the dark.

My body's black and sore.

I need to sleep.

Now hear the heaven's roar.

I can't escape.

Now we've got time to kill!

Kill the shadows on our skin.

Kill the fire that burns within.

Killing time, my friend.

It's ok. There is the question of a certain breed of cow being introduced to the Emerald Isle first. Things will work out in the end.

@lukessummer Yes, it was made into a film (Shadows on our skin) by Jennifer Johnson,in which I had a small non speaking part. A group of us were playing a match in Bullpark in Derry and we were asked to be a part of a section of the crowd who had to run when the British Army advanced into the Bogside area. A friend of mine Paul O'Reilly (Winkle) actually got a speaking part in that film. But it's a nightmare trying to find it now.

This song has been my favourite of all the good songs that Horslips wrote and performed. How futile fighting and war is...

Substitute "the world" for "Eire" in your post and I'd agree.

"Troubles" I think if it had been called "War" , a solution might have been internationally looked for ! so outrageous. Submission, humiliation, right denial, violence, death how can they pretend it's over as long as Eire is not politically united? (so much easier for European countries to interfere with China about Tibet)

Lee McDaid - Donegal

I remember reading the book back in the 80's, but to be honest it wasn't brilliant. I do remember that the chorus ( I think! it may have been a verse) to the song was printed on the first page. Over the years I kept getting the story mixed up in my head with "Cal" (Remember that one?) Anyway, she had obviously gotten inspiration for the title from the Horslips song, so when I thought of putting the song up it seemed fighting to add these images.
