They actually played, 'Zen'...but to their own recording; EVERY musical number in this film was pre-recorded and "lip-synched" on camera {i.e. George Hamilton IV's "Abilene", to his RCA Victor single}.

This is from a 1963 musical that capitalized on the "Hootennanny" folk music craze at the time [as well as the TV series], produced by legendary "B-movie" auteur "Jungle Sam" Katzman. For actors, you got Peter Breck, Ruta Lee, Joby Baker and Pamela Austin. For the music, you got George Hamitlon IV, Johnny Cash, The Brothers Four, Sheb Wooley, Chris Crosby [Bob's son], and a few others. The plot? An urbanite TV director discovers "folk music", and decides to build a TV show around it...

I never get tired of these wonderful songs or the Brother's Four. They made college a lot more fun than it was!
