Love the early Drifters with Clyde McPhatter, and too their later incarnations!

One of my all-time favorite early Drifters songs! Aside from the semi-scandalous lyrics (for 1954), I really love the great vocal harmonies and the fact that this sure sounds like West Indian calypso mixed in with R. & B.! The Carlisles, a Country act, did a pretty decent version also in 1954 and so did Frankie Valli and the Four Lovers in 1956 (yes, the Frankie Valli of the group later known as the Four Seasons).

Whoohoo---this was considered a dirty song and not fit for our lily white ears when I was a teenager. Ha! We fooled our parents and tuned into the R & B station to listen. So glad we did. It was and still is fantastic. Ditto for The Drifters.

1954 Memphis police prohibit The Drifters' "Honey Love" from being loaded into jukeboxes, due to what they considered "suggestive lyrics."

No better than Clyde out in front of The Drifters. This song was actually banned in Boston shortly after it started geting airplay.

@skinnyblinddude another great Drifters tune is Three Thirty Three....which is on the Rockin' and Driftin' box set...it was never released as a single because it was more suggestive than Honey Love

Mafia II had a soundtrack that stands up to Fallout 3. I've got all the songs from both games on all of my flash drives, my external drive, and my main computer. Just so I'll never ever lose them.
