In May the band spent a weekend at Loft Music Studios, Newcastle, recording a three track EP, Lilly. Lilly, Cocaine and Ain't No Grave are three songs that belong together as one piece of work. They are inspired by the whiskey and guns rock and roll of the American music tradition; Johnny Cash, The Band, The Seeger Sessions, Woody Guthrie etc.

Lilly is a tongue-in-cheek argument between lovers; between the cuckold and the harlot, between the jealous husband and the saintly wife - whichever way you fancy reading it. The dual voices/themes are played out in Cocaine and Ain't No Grave. The train-thumping version of Cocaine is a mongrel mix of the trad. Cocaine Blues, with a chord sequence inspired by John Martyn's rendition and lyrics scooped out of an anonymous poem from The Rattlebag (by Ted Hughes and Seamus Heaney). It is a story about Cocaine Lil who parties her way into the grave. But that doesn't stop her, not one bit! The last lines "she died as she lived sniffin' cocaine" are swiftly answered, "there ain't no grave gonna hold my body down". Ain't No Grave is well trodden traditional gospel song covered most famously by Johnny Cash. We've been listening to a lot of dub, reggae and soul and applied that to the arrangement.

We wanted to record songs that had grit and groove, something to party to, but also something that lyrically provides an engaging narrative and history.

The E.P. will be released online towards the end of 2013 -- date to be announced. Limited signed editions will be printed for hard copy sale.
