This is the original song by holocaust, and yes it's in the eighties,. This is raw garage by the band...Metallica took that track and glammed it up commercially.

Great classic Metal song, but the singer is off-key here and pretty weak overall, which is one of the main reasons why Metallica's cover version is far better.

Not bad, but they should have did it in the original E-flat major like they did with the LP version. More menacing that way. One thing that can't be denied though, the NWOBHM was perhaps the most honest and original time in the history of metal. The sound still holds up today and does so in a respectable way does honor to that time, and does it well.

Ok guys, try listening to this while reading "The Shining"... match made in heaven. Works for Doctor Sleep, actually works better for it. Screw it, they're both equal with this creepy song!!!

After 30+ years of hearing this song it still is on my top 5 list... and Holocaust's original still nails it!

People just love to put things down. This is a rad song, pretty reminiscent of Black Sabbath IMO but unique. And metallica did a great job with it..totally wicked+ominous. Their version sounds less like Sabbath. Its funny that people consider a cover a rip. Jimi Hendrix took All Along the Watchtower, a less popular Dylan song+ made it a huge hit, some would say one of his own most iconic songs. Im sure Holocaust(or whoever owns the rights) is bummed on getting royalties off of Garage Days.

Just noticed how old the comment is I guess I am a little late to the party.

I totally agree about the black album and the albums that followed. But I don't think covering a song is the same thing as ripping it off. They stayed pretty true to the original, same with am I evil, crash course and the other heavy metal covers. However I didn't see a need to cover Whiskey in the jar and Turn the page. They should have left the Waylon Jennings song alone too.

How many of you my age(38) would even love these bands(NWOBHM) if it wasn't for Metallica introducing them to us. I am one of them.

Metallica wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for NWOBHM. I respect the fact they know good bands and songs but they can't close to Holocaust and Diamond Head.

If you read my original comment, I'm not complaining about the sound. I'm 37 - I come from the era of home-dubbed cassette tape copies, so I definitely don't mind the overall sound here. All I said is that the singer sounds kinda lame, and I still stand by that. He sounds a little better on record, though. But here he sounds pretty off. Maybe he had an off night? Whatever.

Oh, well, I didn't wanted to sound rude, but, have you heard all Holocaust? It's supposed to sound dirty, as many bands of the NWOBHM. You should consider also that this is a live footage and GD is a studio album with Metallica.
