(HQ version has much better audio quality)

This is my attempt at performing Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek' (if you haven't heard it before, you should!! Go and listen to it once you've finished watching this!) I think It's a great song and feel it's the best, and most creative use of a vocal harmonizer/vocoder effect I've heard in a song.

The main reason I gave this song a go was because I got hold of a vocoder/harmonizer effect for Cubase, and figured out how to like up a keyboard to control it! So I've had lots of fun making interesting sounds with it all.

Hope you enjoy it!

Equipment used - Roland D-10 synth (as midi controller), Audio-Technica mic, Tascam US-144, Cubase LE4, Antares Harmony Engine.

Used synthesizer instead of vocoder or harmonizer? Did you sample a harmony on particular keys?

This is the second or third video I've seen you comment on about her not using a vocoder when nobody was even saying she did or didn't. Who cares? Sheesh!

She may have used an Eventide system at some point but as far as I know (sorry to contradict you!), she used a Digitech Vocalist EX. It can be seen in some live videos from that era (live at Fearless etc..) perched on her keyboard rig :) I'm pretty certain she used this in the original recording, but now she uses a TC Helicon Voicelive as a harmoniser/doubler/vocal processor, live

Hi Toby. I can see that there are a number of people that want to know how you did this... including me. I'm a music teacher in Canada, and I'm planning a concert with my students at the end of this year. We are performing this song to raise money for a woman's shelter and I was hoping you could help me out. If there is any way that you could give me some details on how you did this? you can look me up on Facebook (JP Dupont) or send me an email at [email protected]. Great job!!!

Overall, very very very good. Every now and then you slip sharp or flat. But your falsetto range is amazing, unless that's a pitch shift :p but overall, I think you're well in tune, but the video is somewhat distorted.
