Usually "sweet" doesn't go with Townes Van Zandt. This does. I think "Hey, Willy Boy" is one of the simplest, sweetest, most beautiful song in his repertoire. I am taken with this song and always have been. It is great in the same way Dublin Blues is great. A simple song told in a simple manner. This is from Townes album, "No Deeper Blue". Enjoy!

a simple and beautiful tune from Townes. However simple and beautiful is never easy.

I agree, I love this CD. I was thrilled when Townes used my painting for the cover art. I painted his face fading to blue and he wanted to use it for No Deeper Blue, I had no idea that was the title of his Cd coming out. I've loved Townes and his poetry for many years.

I do believe more annoying songs exist. He wrote this for his son. It's very positive and dreamy. He had hopes for his son to be happy. "Spin and never gonna fall". He knew he was not well and wanted to leave his kids a personal gift. Rex got Rex's Blues, I got "BW Railroad Blues" for BO WHITT(RIP) and Willie and Katie Belle got songs on this album. I'm sure he wrote many for JT. His oldest son, during his lifetime.

Hi. I'm glad you left a comment. We all are allowed our own opinion. I love this song and also love Guy Williams version of it also. I love that Townes had a happy day, a happy thought, a "happy anything". As he said once, "I'm depressing & when I'm not depressing I'm damn hopeless" or close to that. We lost him too soon. It's bad when a dr. tells you to NOT let them stop drinking or it will kill them. (I sang this as a lullaby song to my kids,so that helps me like it!) Thanks 4 ur comment,Moppet

Thanks. I've been with Townes for quite some time now(25 years)and I love his music. The songs on Deeper Blue gives me an unresistable melancholy feeling depending on his damaged voice. It's deeper blue...

Thank you! You don't know me at all, but I have very, very seldom been told anyone agreed with me. (on a personal level. Also, in music sometimes). That simple comment is wonderful! You (and getting to listen to Townes as I write this) have given me a big smile! My best to you, Moppet (Barbara)

@anonymoose711 You are more than welcome! I first heard Guy Clark sing this was happyt to find it was Townes song.I've read he wrote it for his son, but his son didn't like it much. I'm glad you enjoyed it and left a message. I appreciate every comment I get. Thank you, Moppet
