Herman's Hermits - No milk today & Sandy Shaw - Puppet on a String 1967

1. Herman's Hermits - No milk today

No milk today, it wasnt always so

The company was gay, wed turn night into day

As music played the faster did we dance

We felt it both at once, the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means

The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams

How could they know a palace there had been

Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

No milk today, my love has gone away

The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn

But all thats left is a place dark and lonely

A terraced house in a mean street back of town

Becomes a shrine when I think of you only

Just two up two down

No milk today, it wasnt always so

The company was gay, wed turn night into day

As music played the faster did we dance

We felt it both at once, the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means

The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams

How could they know a palace there had been

Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

2. Sandy Shaw - Puppet on a String

I wonder if one day that, you'll say that, you care

If you say you love me madly I'll gladly be there

Like a puppet on a string

Love is just like a merry-go-round

With all the fun of the fair

One day I'm feeling down on the ground

Then I'm up in the air

Are you leading me on

Tomorrow will you be gone

I wonder if one day that, you'll say that, you care

If you say you love me madly I'll gladly be there

Like a puppet on a string

I may win on the round-a-bout

Then I'll lose on the swings

In or out there is never a doubt

Just who's pulling the strings

I'm all tied up in you

But where's it leading me to

I wonder if one day that, you'll say that, you care

If you say you love me madly I'll gladly be there

Like a puppet on a string

I wonder if one day that, you'll say that, you care

If you say you love me madly I'll gladly be there

Like a puppet on a string

Like a puppet on a string

On this day in 1967 {February 11th} Herman Hermits' "There's A Kind of Hush" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it peaked at #4 and was the group's last Top 10 hit... The record's B-sided, "No Milk Today", also charted, it reached #35 and stayed on the Top 100 for 8 weeks... Between 1964 and 1968 they had nineteen Top 100 hits, with more than half of them making the Top 10 {a total of 11 with two number ones, "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" and "I'm Henry The Eighth, I Am"}...
