"If you can walk you can dance. If you can talk you can sing."

--- Proverb, Zimbabwe

A spectacular and very original arrangement of the famous "O' Cangaceiro" is brought to us here by Helmut Zacharias. Written by Alfredo Do Nascimento for the 1953 Mexican "western" which is also known under the title "The Bandit" this music became a worldwide evergreen since its publication.

There must be hundreds of instrumental and orchestral versions - in our opinion this must be one of the most "original" interpretations. The mix of female and male voices, the explosive use of the strings and all this 'carried' by a hypnotizing rhythm makes this particular rendition of "The Bandit" quite unique.

From the 1990 compilation album "Danke Schoen" here's Helmut Zacharias and His Orchestra with the captivating " O' Cangaceiro ".

Theme video is titled " Guardians Of The Plaines".

Have fun & enjoy !

A nice rendition. I first heard this song in a cinema in London in 1954. The song then was called "The Bandit Of Brazil" I loved it then, and I love it now.

No, not a plain, but it runs across a plateau. I believe plateau is an English word for a high plain.

Given the subject and title of this video (Guardians of the Plains) guess I must have been thinking (unconsciously ?) about you guys ! (Though the GC isn't exactly "a plain" is it ;-) ? Glad you made it back safely. Walt

I think I only heard his violin once! We are safely back from our sojourn to the Grand Canyon's North rim, about a 10-hour trip each way including stops for meals, trinkets & well.. you know! Still 6 hours eac way if you drive straight through. We left 0500 Saturday & returned 2200 Sunday. It is only 16km across the canyon, yet it is a drive of some 300+km by the time you reach a place where you can cross a bridge over the canyon (at 850m above the river) & double back. It was great fun! chuck
