Wikipedik says: The Dirt of Luck was the first full length album from American indie rock band Helium. It was released in April 1995 on Matador Records and was produced by Adam Lasus. The main guitar riff from "Skeleton" (Track 7) was later borrowed by Sonic Youth for the song "Sunday".

Did I tell you I've got tiny little fingers

I've got bones where the ring goes

They go like a plant grows

They go slowly

They go over your new clothes

They go over your money

They go over your head, man

The only good man is a dead man

I like pretty baby candy

It goes right to my head

It makes my lips as red as rubbies

I'll eat it till im dead

Did I tell you that you can't get to heaven

In high-heeled shoes?

You're such a loose little belle

You're a fallen angel

You go down into the big pit

It is deeper than a tar pit

Your lips are redder than lucifer

Your hair is up in curlers

I like pretty baby candy

'Cause It goes right to my head

It makes my lips as red as rubbies

I'll eat it till im dead

I understand what you're getting at, but you're looking at the wrong bands. Helium and Sleater-Kinney are completely self-made bands who made music as teenagers to express themselves, and happened to be really fucking good at it. They both have roots in the riot grrrl scene, a DIY punk movement that called for female empowerment and addressed social issues like LGBT rights, a far cry from narcissism and one upsmanship. Also the members of Sleater-Kinney all dress like normal adults...

No es por nada y me perdonaran varios fans de SY, pero ellos SAQUEARON sin roche alguno el riff de esa cancion para su "Sunday" de algun lugar tenian que sacarlo supongo...

The riff in Sunday is similar, but I don't think they consciously set out to rip this off at all, as the description appears to imply...

the riff was 'borrowed' eh? well, when are they giving it back?

one of my favorite helium songs. i've have this album for 16 years and it never gets old. i think the "pirate prude" ep and this album were helium's prime.

@macikatica she also has to give guitar lessons just to help pay her rent, because believe if or not, she's not living in a white class of luxury, she makes music and art because she loves it and it doesn't really pay the bills. i've seen her in person many times, and she's not wearing second hand clothes and dressing like a hipster. she just dresses like a normal working musician. shouldn't be so quick to lump someone into a group of poseurs before you know their history. mary is legit.

@macikatica i don't think you really understand the musicality of mary timony's music. she went to to school soley for the guitar on scholarship, if you listen to early helium and autoclave albums you can hear the layers of melody and alternate tunings in her work, and she's pretty well respected in the music industry as an accomplished guitarist and writer, she's absolutely cares about the actual music.

They toured with Sonic Youth - I believe for this album. They played at M.I.T. in Cambridge/Boston together. I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Youth lifted the riff. Great band.
