Saw them on the Smothers Brother and was just knocked out. Must have been about 14 or 15. Went right out and bought All the Friendly Colors and later this one. Listened to them til I knew every note... Still have the vinyl! Needless to say totally unplayable! Could never get rid of them though, too many beautiful & poignant memories...

I saw H & D on television(perhaps Ed Sullivan-can anyone veify that?) and at the Troubador in West Los Angeles. I was simly changed by them and this music. I am at 57 still transformed by songs like Please Understand Me...Thank you both for being in my life...thank you so much!

Thanks for letting us know you're still out there doing it, Arnie. I turned 65 yesterday, but these recordings take me back to my deepest roots and love of the music of the time.

My mother played this album so much. It brings back memories looking for this for her.

This is so amazing to find this here.....as I posted on "Jamie".....this music was a real influence on me when I started playing guitar and writing songs......I still play in a duo and trading out verses and harmonies are a mainstay for us! Thanks for posting this!

Dewey, I'm now a substitute teacher for LAUSD (oh, woe is me!), but live in a paid-off Prp 13 house in the Valley and have no debt as I near 65. I kept playing through the mid 90s, ending up in the final incarnation of the Palomino Riders for 12 years (the house band for The Palomino in No. Hollywood). Those were heady days ( I'll keep the pun) at the old troubadour, huh? We made it! Hoyt didn't......

@ArnieMoore1 Arnie, I was a big fan of Hedge and Donna as well as John Stewart.I grew up in So. Cal (Loyola Marymount) and I saw you with JS countless times and enjoyed every performance. I hope you're doing well.

Great! At last, something on Youtube! I don't think anything by H&D was released in England but Rolling Stone kindly sent me a free 33rpm ep - all the way across the pond - back in the late 60's and it had Bob Seger, Gandalf and... Hedge and Donna on it. A brilliantly eerie track called 'He who must die'. Never seen an LP by them - not on Ebay UK anyway. Thanks

Boy does this bring back memories. I was their bass player. We had all gone to Whittier College together in the mid 60s, along with Billy batson who wrote this song.
