Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus. The opera is based on the canonical gospels' accounts of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with Jesus and his followers arriving in Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. Twentieth-century attitudes and sensibilities as well as contemporary slang pervade the lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the political depiction of the events. Stage and film productions accordingly feature many intentional anachronisms.

I agree that this is the best judas I have ever heard and Murray head the singer made limited fame as a solo artist but man was he good here as Judas absolutely unforgettable and I still know all the words to the entire album some 35 years after first hearing it!

This performance shows Murray Head had incredible vocal skills. Why did he not have a major singing career?

Can anyone find a visual recording anywhere of Murray head as Judas. I hope there is one out there

Murray Head is the absolute, all-time, no fooling best singer of this part, ever. Carl Anderson had the voice of an angel - which is why he was the wrong singer for this part. This is a ROCK opera, and Murray Head's raspy, wailing, agonized voice was absolutely perfect for this role. Not just on this track, but all of them.

This version does not even come close to the one by Carl Anderson's in the movie. it's a shame.
