This is really sad to think about.

This feels so stilted compared to his piano version on the "Alone At The Mic" DVD. Not to mention the take from "Live At Electrical Audio" that I think blows them all out of the water. If you think this is good, just go to Bazan's soundcloud now and be blown away by the full band interpretation.

The remix by Mint Julep brought me here. Gotta say, I love both versions.

@BoratBastard I'm going to interview him for UG, and I'll be sure to ask.

This could be the anthem of my ex-boyfriend.

@BISChris yes, thank you guys, thats what makes the song have such humanistic depth. makes it a thousand times sadder too.

@zarphixiot Agreed 100%. I have no idea why people look past this line that exposes this whole narrative as defense mechanism.

A song that's only half true..

@BoratBastard You explain this song so much clearer and less "pretentious" than the dude in the piano version of the song.

You know it isn't like me to be inflammatory, but rather than let you think that I was so naive, I'd have you believe I never wanted you, I never wanted to. There's no doubt that the whole song is a lie he's telling to make it hurt less. There's no other way to interpret those lines!

Ideas Worth Animating

I think it's about Bazan's relationship with God ...... totally me projecting of course. (But he is an atheist now, right?)

@BoratBastard i don't see it that way but it is an interesting way of putting it. to me, i see it like the narrator actually not genuinely feeling anything for his lover but underneath this dark and un-remorseful attitude, there is some empathy towards the lover's heart he's broken. but like i said, i never read it the way you did and i can see that.

@BoratBastard agreed. I too like to think of it as that.
