This type of video makes me sad... So called 'soulies' willing to enable the commercialisation of our scene, just so they can get their faces in a video that has nothing to do with the rare soul scene, the ironic thing is the professional dancers brought in for this video actually dance better than those ( yes we can see you) who regularly enter the 'northern soul' dance contests such as Blackpool 'Okeh Kokey' etc. OK the pro's lack the feeling but technically they are far better. The best 'soulful' dancers rarely enter dance competitions as has generally been the case since I started going to niters in 73. The acrobatics are a joke, yes dancers would do the splits and back drops but only to certain records and in time with the beat, now everyone seems hell bent on chucking themselves all over the place as soon as a camera is pointed their way lol. The crowd that appear in the Wigan 'This Is England' programme does not truly represent the way it was, most regulars stayed well out the way. But what saddens me most is the contrived nature of this video, single handedly it shows everything that is cringingly embarrassing about the current scene. I don't mean the Moloko origional that was just another case of mainstream jumping on a very over crowded band wagon, it's the fact that someone has used Footsie, if only the poster did this with his/her tongue firmly in their cheek that would have been sheer ironic brilliance, but sadly I doubt it. So here we are 'Oh you like 'northern soul do you?' Yes I like rare, soulful, black dance music... Oh that's 'baggy trousers, bowling shirts, Moloko, Duffy, Paul O'Grady and Footsie' "Well not really" 'yes it is I've seen it on Youtube, TV, in the Daily Mail etc'

I remember this being played on TOTP (1974). The dancing then was nothing as portrayed in this 'made for whom' VDO. It was pure 'this is how we dance to Northern soul' (and somewhat magical) and not this manufactured piece of HD bovine spongiform! Am sure the 'actors' must have enjoyed themselves making the VIDEO, but am sorry! I think they need to learn more on how to dance to Northern Soul and not portray how they feel Northern Soul should be danced. It's not all spins and drops!
