I watched this identical truly atomic rendition live at Harrah's Tahoe in June 1964 while I was working at Harrah's.

Buddy's intro at the 0:05 second mark is a symphony onto itself.

Only 8 years later -1972- Deep Purple toured Japan... what an overwhelming difference in those 8 years!!!What happened through our last 8 years?

Amazing arrangement--first class in every single way. Stellar performance, too. I am so glad Harry got away from all the silly schmaltz performances of the 1940's!

Great band, and nobody ever was the equal of BR.

Even some today's best big bands can't reach the sound bands like these could back then. Just saying. Excellent.

It's almost crazy to me to think that only 8 years later (1972) Deep Purples were touring the very same Japan...

Some bloody good section playing from the band, too.

Buddy Rich looks just like Fred Armisen here.

I had Harry James Olds Ambassador trumpet and played it in high school band. Some kid put crazy glue in the valves as a practical joke. I hated school.

My parents and I ran into Mr James in the hallway while going back to our room at a hotel in Vegas about 1964.

I encourage all young trumpet players to study Harry James. His improvisations were brilliant! Thanks for listening, that's why I keep posting! !

I just have to listen Harry's solo over and over again. Its so melodic and yet burning and tasty. I'm playing a Tribute to Harry James in school and listening to this make me rethink my entire stylistic choice of playing in the tune. Amazing stuff

I wonder if Buddy screamed at Harry's band the way he did his own band? Probably not.
