Zimmer is one of the best composers in his genre. Beethoven and Mozart are in a completely different category. They made insanely beautiful music, Zimmer writes insanely emotional music. Soundtrack composers aren't supposed to write pieces like Chopin, etc. The best soundtrack composers write music that makes you feel a particular emotion or set of emotions or bring a specific image to your brain. But the music has to be complex at the same time, like a story, plot twists, subtle characters, climax, everything. If its too simple and you're feeling an emotion its most likely just the heavy beat in the background that you're vibing off. Thats what makes a mediocre composer. Those composers still write some awesome scores but there's no originality. Moral of the story, know the difference. Lol :D
