The ticking clock is a nice touch and emphasis's the importance of time in relation to this scene. Every hour they spend on this planet equates to 7 years of Earth time due to relativity. In addition to that the crew also run out of "short term" time as the realisation the wave is going to engulf them. Seconds, and therefore literally days on Earth, are flying by as Brann struggles to retrieve the data, risking her and everyone's life to do so. Her split second decision to attempt to collect the data rather than abandon it has cost Earth and the mission 23 years. Tick tock.
