Hank's singing was only matched by his song-writing. Both were great.

Condition Of Anonymity

folks, this man "was" Country Music. ladies and gentlemen, Hank Williams.... one of the great's of Real True Country Music, and not the crap their playing on top 40 supposed country music radio. i've not listened to radio in several years, but if i did, i could be caught up in bout 45 minutes, or less. so enjoy youtube, well until google decide to before long giggle-it up, or youggle-it up, which ever. please remember to vote "like--thumbs-ups" these videos, these folks spend a lot of their time in uploading them. time and energy, i always vote-up almost every video i watch, and if i happen to hate one, i just go to the next one. take care, and God bless.

This performance was from the "Mother's Best Flour (radio) Show" in 1951. The sparse, stark arrangement by Hank and his Drifting Cowboys here, IMO, conveys the song's mood better than the MGM or "Health & Happiness Show" versions (both from 1949).BTW, the line-up on this transcription consists of:-Hank Williams (vocal, acoustic guitar)-Don Helms (steel guitar)-Jerry Rivers (fiddle)-Sammy Pruett (electric guitar)-Howard Watts aka Cedric Rainwater (bass)-(possibly also Big Bill Lister playing an inaudible additional acoustic guitar)

Hear that lonesome whippoorwillHe sounds too blue to flyThe midnight train is whining lowI'm so lonesome I could cryI've never seen a night so longWhen time goes crawling byThe moon just went behind the cloudsTo hide its face and cryDid you ever see a robin weepWhen leaves begin to die?Like me, he's lost the will to liveI'm so lonesome I could cryThe silence of a falling starLights up a purple skyAnd as I wonder where you areI'm so lonesome I could cry
