They did have chemical weapons back then, and we destroyed them. The debris from one of those chemical manufacturing plants blew over our line...which is one of the causes of Gulf War Syndrome. I saw a couple of my friends wither away to nothing after we got back, one of the scariest and saddest times of my life.

Then U.S. Ambassador April Glaspie was asked by the Iraqi gov what the 'U.S. position was on Arab matters' and she responded 'the U.S. has no official position' essentially green lighting the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. They needed money after their decade long war with the Iranians that the U.S. had funded and played both sides against one another, not to mention the Kuwaiti slant drilling into Iraqi oil fields. Plus, we had a surplus of weapons we needed to get rid of.
