The Water Music is a collection of orchestral movements, often considered three suites, composed by George Frideric Handel. It premiered on 17 July 1717 after King George I had requested a concert on the River Thames. The concert was performed by 50 musicians playing on a barge near the royal barge from which the King listened with close friends, including the Duchess of Bolton, the Duchess of Newcastle, the Countess of Godolphin, Madam Kilmarnock, and the Earl of Orkney. George I was said to have enjoyed the suites so much that he bade the exhausted musicians play them three times over the course of the outing. Source: Wikipedia

... ko bi rekao...... "poželjeh" Handel-a... pa igrom slučaja naletih i na podatak da je premijera Watermusic-a bila 17.7.1717 (na rijeci Thames-i, jer je Kralj tako "zatražio"...)... hmmm?... danas je 17.7.... k'o neki rođendan! ..... slučaj ili?...

Peter! It looks like the style of Canaletto and to my mind could be one of his paintings.

I would love to find this recording for the suite, I'm getting married in the fall and would love to use the "air" as my Processional, and the Hornpipe for the recessional, since the wedding is going to be on a Galleon, I think it would be a nice choice.

This feels, to me, to be most like the way it was probably performed in Haendel's time, lightly, elegantly, and with a sense of forward motion. I have often heard it played much more slowly, plodding like some mediocrely played late Romantic piece. Very lovely.

Hi there! This is my preferred version of the Air, the more upbeat, fun version...which I simply cannot find anywhere. Can you please tell me where you found this version? I would like it to be part of my collection. Thank you so very much!
