I see your point, but metal is the genre in which there is (in my opinion) the biggest difference in performers, each band forms a kind of subgenre to the genre, unlike pop where they sometimes try to copy other artist's styles etc. However to find out the difference of "heavy metal", "death metal" and "trash metal" or whatever is really a pain in the ass and can differ from whom one maight ask about it. I agree with you that it isn't a big deal whatever they call it, I just call it metal. :)

This is why I don't like metal because everyone has to label every god damn sub genre they can think of. It's music just listen to it, don't confine an artist into a genre. Let them be their own style. You can call you it progressive neo death thrash industrial heavy metal I'll just call it music. Now everyone just please shut up and listen.

some call the whole metal genre "heavy metal" i, personally, prefer the name "metal" for the genre, and "heavy metal" for the subgenre you prefer to as "classic heavy metal" it's easier, and i'm not the first one to do that, there are many also, there are many new band that play that classic heavy metal, but enhance it and make something new, while still staying inside the subgenre, you can't call that "classic", although it's the same subgenre
