Few guitarists are more down to earth than Guthrie (I've met him a few times) and believe it or not, he'd be the first to point out the playing strengths of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, and so on. And believe it or not, LOTS of people love Guthrie's music. It just caters to a different audience.10 years ago

Wow thanks for that mini attack on British people. Very nice of you. Music is all about preference. Guthrie's tone is what he likes and prefers. Not everybody wants a clean tone. Grow up and accept other people have different takes on instruments and their sound and please stop generalising other nationalities as it's very insulting. It's very typical of British people to be sarcastic and make a lot of jokes. Not only but he's basically right, a sweep is simply a faster way to play the notes. Try using strict alternate picking instead of sweeping, you'll see why he's right.10 years ago
