As I'm sure others have already pointed out, "The Guns of Brixton" was on the "London Calling" album which was released in December 1979. So, the song clearly was not an interpretation of the events of the 1981 riots. So, can anyone enlighten the general public (and me) on the inspiration for "The Guns of Brixton"? Was there already a lot of unrest in Brixton in the late 1970's that was known to people there at the time? Was this song prescient? My recollection is that there was a lot of economic unrest in the UK in the late 70's. And, is it just me, or is Joe Strummer pronouncing "Brixton" more light "Britain"?
