"F#... I don't know why that's there." LOL. That's rich! I don't know why that note is there either, but it sure sound good. And in my opinion, let's toss theory out the window... if it sounds good, it's right! The old bluesmen didn't care about scales, or modes, or arpeggios, or any of that stuff. They just played what sounded good to them. That's what I like about YOU; you have mojo! Rock onYo!Blind Jack Cotton

Back in the late 70s after EV Halen landed and forever changed guitar, I use to line up about 6 Electro harmonix pedals, turn on a strobe light and blow people's minds. Not that I was that good, actually a few cassette tapes that survived I really sucked but it was overall new experience of the pedals that opened up my " and their" minds.I recently went all in and got a top of the line National Reso and have not had so much fun since those days. Bored with blasting Marshalls/humbuckers and over drives, I wanted to learn open D on a steel guitar. I took to it like a duck to water. I also am not a "trained " musician but rather learn on my own what sounds right. Not since the 70s have I so easily impressed others either. I sat down with my Father and a few friends unrehearsed and with nothing prepared and just started the foot tapping and went for it. Very quickly the aged bourbon was pouring and improvised lyrics started being sung. except for the picking and lead lines open D is imo as easy as it gets. Usually it either sounds really good or totally wrong. So learn what works and what does not. Other than barre chords I might know 5 fingered ones. The rest are all bar and slide but its amazing how much emotion and material you can get out of a good sounding reso guitar with a slide and the right attitude.Save the finger picking and hard stuff for any guitarist you might want to impress. I no longer give a dam and 99.9% of the people listen don;t either. A open strum with some bar chords done with some soul and some quick slides to the 12th will impress more than the most complex fingerpicking to 99.9% of the avg listener.

And, I'm straight diggin' the jam. lol I'm exactly like that; I lack the discipline. Who would've thought that Delta Blues would sound so good in Open D.
