Also known as "Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer," this hymn was written by William Williams, regarded by some as "the Welsh Charles Wesley."

The hymn has some other verses translated from Welsh into English that are as follows:

Lord, I trust Thy mighty power,

Wondrous are Thy works of old;

Thou deliver'st Thine from thralldom,

Who for naught themselves had sold:

Thou didst conquer, Thou didst conquer,

Sin, and Satan and the grave,

Sin, and Satan and the grave.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,

Bid my anxious fears subside;

Death of deaths, and hell's destruction,

Land me safe on Canaan's side.

Songs of praises, songs of praises,

I will ever give to Thee;

I will ever give to Thee.

Musing on my habitation,

Musing on my heav'nly home,

Fills my soul with holy longings:

Come, my Jesus, quickly come;

Vanity is all I see;

Lord, I long to be with Thee!

Lord, I long to be with Thee!

The words 'Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah' verse 1 and the first two lines of verse 2 were written by the Rev. Peter Williams ( not William Williams ). There is no certainty that the remainder of the hymn ( 4 verses in total ) were written by William Williams, they could have been a re-draft of earlier verses written by the Rev Peter Williams. In summary, all verses we recognise could have been written by Rev. Peter Williams.( Tr. Hymns and their authors, Rev John Thickens ).

One of top hymns.. I have more than a drop of Celt running through me, but I first sang it an all-girls High Anglican school and (in English). It touches my soul. Love hearing the Welsh Male Choirs do it justice.

Anglican Voices? Oh dear. The dissenters might lay claim to it. The hymn is Welsh, the tune is Welsh, and is MAGNIFICENT when sung by the Welsh (probably before they stuff us on the Rugby pitch). So, go carefully when using the word "Anglican", unless referring to the Church of (in) Wales. I've seen a tourist "blow torched" for referring to my Celtic neighbours as Anglo Saxons! Quite a spectacle it was!!

So many errors. William Williams did not write 'Guide me Oh! Thou Great Jehovah' which was written by The Rev. Peter Williams. William Williams did however write the Welsh words...Arglwydd arwain drwy'r anialwch'. William Williams was NOT a Right Reverend, nor a Reverend, although he was a curate for a short while at Abergwesyn. He died at the age of 74 ( Not 99 !! ). He died over 200 years ago. If he was your Aunt's Great grandfather then you should have been around 120 years old last year!!.
