A beautiful, deeply personal song of Paul's that was released in 2005 as a B-side to his single "Fine Line" (not all versions of the single have this song on it). Although Paul's first wife Linda died years before this song's release, it seems like this was written for her. This is only my opinion of course, but he did in a way, "grow up" with her...so I made this video based on the life they had together. Listening to these lyrics I've found them to be reflective and very honest. A lot of his songs from this period are like this - just listen to Riding to Vanity Fair, How Kind of You, & Comfort of Love - very melancholy songs, but they really tell a story.

LYRICS:

We were growing, time was going so fast

Without knowing, we were growing up fast

We were lying down, in the shade

I remember the love we made

We were lying down, on the bed

I remember the tears we shed

We were growing, time was going so fast, (Growing up)

Without knowing, (Falling down) we were growing up fast (Growing up, Falling down)

(Growing up, Falling down)

We were laughing to, we were so

I remember the fun we had

We were crying loud, with the pain

We will never be here again

Growing up, falling down

Paul was up until 0:49 the rest is long face faul. Paul had a distinctful face really shows at 0:47 to 0:49 our cute little round face paul he is irreplaceable.

I did change "shared" to "shed" in the lyrics, which had been suggested to me a while ago - finally just got around to it now! (It says "tears we shared" on the lyric sites I went to, and while I like that phrasing better, I could see that "shed" fit better. (Ughh I miss the "old days" when I had the lyrics printed in front of me!)

Sorry, but I don't see where they're wrong. Can you be more specific?

I've been reading the biography "Linda McCartney: A Portrait" by Danny Fields... it's incredible, it makes you feel like she's a friend of yours... and listening to this song since I've been reading that biography is so meaningful. Wow. Beautiful piece.

Paul have the extraordinary capacity of put his feelings in a very moving way in each song he has ever wrote, this is why he is going so deeply in our souls...I love him and his music...

This song could be about Pauls and Lindas realasionship.I think they shared many tears when Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I dont think Paul and John could make love together. They were not homosexuals.Briain Epstein Beatles manager was homosexual.

@DianeMarie5930 Well then, where would Paul make love with John? It'd have to be somewhere hidden

The atmosphere on this one is so entrancing! Just gorgeous! Seems to have the duduk used in Jenny Wren amongst other things. btw, small correction to your lyrics: "tears we shared" should be "tears we shed"

@DianeMarie5930 Lol yes maybe some parts of the song i could see being about john but not that part! I could only believe that would be about linda.

I know this may sound a bit morbid but I think that Paul has written some of his most POWERFUL and utterly sublime songs since the death of Linda, whereas during their marriage he wrote what I feel to be quite a number of weak songs that were not up to par with his excellent earlier work with the Beatles. It's as if Linda's death set his soul afire once again. bless this beautiful man.

Nice, rare photos. I'm guessing this is about his first girlfriend Dorothy (Dot). Can't imagine Paul making love in the shade with John! Linda, yes.
