In an inconspicuous way, Gretchen Parlato knows how to play the same instrument that Frank Sinatra played.

There's no one out there like Gretchen."

-- Wayne Shorter

he was a winter wind

she was a summer flower

shell blossom and re-begin

hell blow her away

and fall into april showers

this street that we walk upon

leading us to tomorrow

holds past dreams all come undone

with love in our hearts,

we step into all our sorrow

floating up beyond the moon

falling down will come too soon

land upon a weeping willow

if its all just meant to be

let it's branches cradle me

hold me close, oh weeping willow tree

now is the time of your life to hold on

I agree! The world would be a much better and peaceful place if more people listened to jazz like this!

Amongst contemporary non-classical singers, I don't know of anyone who so powerfully "floats" like Gretchen Parlato; and this cut is a perfect example of that. The piano trio is brilliant for how it complements her voice in that regard.

Great stuff (art, music, literature, film...) was never, is never, and never will be the taste of the masses. That's the way life works. As far as I'm concerned Gretchen Parlato is one of the very best singers I've heard in my entire life, regardless the musical genre. If people prefer to listen to Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber instead, it's their loss, not mine.

i like her songs, but i do wish her strong were stronger in some songs. i couldn't put my finger on it, but yes, she is quite nasal, and not in a brasilian portugues kind of way.

I'll tell you why..she doesn't move her hips on stage! if she did,the masses would flock to her

It's good to see even deaf people have opinions about music.

I really like the music, but her voice just doesn't, I don't know, fit to my opinion T_T I guess I'm not fond of singers that sing trough their noses ¦:¬/ ... (that's a metaphor, not meant bad) I do like the text though. I somehow wish there was an instumental of this... Time to search then!
