*** PLEASE, WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY FOR PROPER AUDIO! ***

So, I decided to take a look at all the separate channels of some chiptune music at once. Thought it might look cool, since those waveforms are usually so pretty. I quickly put together a script to create this video.

This time for the music, I picked Grayscale Project's "Jam Session", a short but sweet tune. Mostly, I tried it now just because it makes good use of the panning. We see here 8 channels. Each channel has a pan value (left or right), and I chose their position accordingly.

I tried several different compression algorithms here, and they all kind of ruined the colors and lines. Except H.264. What an awesome codec! These things usually work best with moving, smooth images, so this is basically their worst-case scenario. YouTube just made it worse. I suggest you watch this in high-quality mode, at least for proper audio.

I'm still trying to figure some extra things to do with this, like capturing the timbre and showing it in place, instead of just passing the waveform by. Until then, have another one. YouTube needs more chiptune anyway.

This is the first multi-scope visualization of a song. With 8 channels coming from two PoKEY chips panned left and right each.

This will go well with an 8bit lemon scented Ajax dishwashing liquid boss at the end of some random game.

God, I remember finding this on the old Grayscale site, probably a full decade ago. It was excellent then and it's excellent now.

@SquareWaveHeaven: Yes, there are - Atari with stereo upgrade was used. Such upgrade is quite common in the Atari scene.

Are there two chips playing? How else would they get 8 channels?
