Gothic (Or female fronted) metal doesn't have to suck. Take a band like Epica, it's not my kind of metal, but you can clearly hear that it's good music, and that they're good musicians, even though I don't really like it. It's not super heavy, but in the essence, it's still metal. I've personally never had anything against it. I think metalcore and deathcore suck harder.
