Unbroken Chain by the Grateful Dead off of their 1974 album, The Grateful Dead from the Mars Hotel.

This footage was taken by a guy named Wallace Kelly. It's of his family's 1937 trip to Yellowstone. Enjoy!

The droplets of waterfall exists briefly during the moments if its fall and then disappears. Its beauty is not by what it was or what it will be, but by what it is during the brief moments of its fall, and so it is with life. peace n love

Fantastic, thanks for the post. Unbroken Chain was the only GD cut to enjoy anysemblance of commercial success. Received play on top 40 radio. Radio was stilla huge media conveyance in the early '70's.The accompanying video is superb, chock full of symbolism for all things "Americana".

Excellent chouce of video to accompany this song.I see a lot of the Americana symbology and iconography thatso heavily infused the GD culture in the 70's.

A song so difficult that they couldn't play it live until they started using the teleprompters not too long before Jerry died. There's a soundcheck of them rehearsing the song at soundcheck in 94 or 95, and Phil's getting upset with everyone because he REALLY wants to play the song live, and they can't get the arrangement tight enough the way he wants to hear it. And then he gets mad at the guy running the teleprompter because he had his monitors turned off when Phil was trying to ask him to change the font on the screen. I've also wondered if the difficulty they had with certain songs wasn't down to Jerry's relative laziness when it came to playing stuff that required "work" to make it sound good (eg this one, New Potato Caboose, Born Cross Eyed, Weather Report Suite, St Stephen, etc).

Complex and fluid at the same time... Just like life. Just when I think I could shed a tear it lifts me up.

With all the craziness in the world, coming back to this song is really calming.

I first heard this tune in 1989 and was instantly hooked. There's no other song like it. It sometimes calms my soul and sometimes makes me cry. It intrigues me every time I hear it.
