I heard a local bar band play this song the other night and loved it. This is a great song I just wish someone besides the Dead were playing it. For a studio recording all I hear is the shrill twang of the guitar, a vaguely mumbled vocal track and aimless bass. For me, it's always been a conflict between loving the message but not loving the messengers.

Classic Dead.I love Gerry's bell sweet chimes of righteous riffage and Phil's fabulous and melodic bass on this one especially during the fade out

Sagan didn't just make that up cause it sounds cool - those elements, all elements besides hydrogen, are literally created in the center of stars, so we are indeed made of stardust. now to get back to the garden :)

I bought this album in high school. This song is just as great now, as it was then...(maybe even better).

Timeless Classic. The essence of the band. Robert Hunter and The Band at their best. A work of Art.Right outside this lazy summer homeyou don't have time to call your soul a critic, no Right outside the lazy gate of winter's summer homewondering where the nuthatch wintersWings a mile long just carried the bird awayWake up to find out that you are the eyes of the Worldbut the heart has its beachesits homeland and thoughts of its ownWake now, discover that youare the song that the morning bringsbut the heart has its seasonsits evenings and songs of its ownThere comes a redeemer and he slowly too fades awayThere follows a wagon behind himthat's loaded with clay and the seeds that were silentall burst into bloom and decayThe night comes so quietand it's close on the heels of the dayWake up to find out that you are the eyes of the worldbut the heart has its beachesits homeland and thoughts of its ownWake now, discover that youare the song that the morning bringsbut the heart has its seasonsits evenings and songs of its ownSometimes we live no particular way but our ownSometimes we visit your countryand live in your homeSometimes we ride on your horsesSometimes we walk aloneSometimes the songs that we hearare just songs of our ownWake up to find out that you are the eyes of the worldbut the heart has its beachesits homeland and thoughts of its ownWake now, discover that youare the song that the morning bringsbut the heart has its seasonsits evenings and songs of its own
