I was at this show, too, as a guest of Owsley, the only time I got in backstage at a Dead show. Amazingly, the very next show was the classic in Oregon captured on the Sunshine Daydream DVD.

Always love hearing Bills intros. 10/22/78 is one of my favorites, "there not the best at what they do, there the only ones who do what they do". So true.

Aside from the lame Bill Graham beginning, this is vintage GD.

This music is more pleasant to the ear it seems than pretty much all of the music that has been written during my lifetime. I love these guys so much, I wish I could've lived to see them play. Each performance is a brand new adventure, and while some didn't go that well, there are always moments of brilliance in every single one. There is no band of my generation that I can think of that has such unique experiences with performing for the sake of performing and genuinely loving music. Live Dead.

If Betty Boards feed your head, it's time for a little "goes around comes around" action. localmusicvibe[dot]com/news/please-help-betty-buy-ride-glide

Early Keith. Pigpen checked out by this point. Pivotal moment for the band.
