the first time i heard this song was back in like 2008 or something. i was laying on a raggedy old couch in my garage on a summer evening, on mushrooms and my friend put this on and it melted me in the best possible way, if that makes sense. i was thenceforth converted to a fan of the Grateful Dead. the instrumental break especially threw me for a loop. i felt like i was somewhere waaaaay out in the cosmos even though i was in a garage in Ohio.

I'm 41, and was fortunate to be one of the younger age, that experianced A Dead-show! It was not a concert... The buses got there a week ahead of the band! Pot smoke filled the air... Acid, Shrooms, and Nitrous were passed out free, in a "Grateful Dead Hired Security" block of public....... I will never be able to explain what two-17yr old boys experianced....But I can say... A true (now no longer with Jerry gone) Dead show, left you altered in a good way for LIFE!.....

Candyman is not just a classic, it speaks volumes. Very few songs can match it's caliber. Mr. Garcia and the Dead definitely went beyond boundaries with this song. It is unfortunate that Grateful Dead is underrated. I am not a dead head but would have loved to be one.
