Having read a little more on the origins of "Pub" I would have to say that Gordon probably should be credited with the song as only a couple of lines of Dan's poem are used in the song. Slim did give part credit to Dan once he found out about the original poem.

The Pub With No Beer, or more correctly the Pub Without Beer as it was originally penned was written by poet Dan Sheahan in 1943 after the Day Dawn Hotel in Ingham, Queensland was drunk dry by a bunch of US soldiers. Gordon Parsons adapted it to song in 1956 and gave it to Slim Dusty to record. The rest is history.

Legend has it, Gordon wrote "the pub With No Beer" in a caravan, while he was drinking rum with Chad Morgan.....How Aussie can you get!.....LOL
