Since the mid 1950's when I was a kid watching Carousel, no singer has ever topped Gordon MacRae for me. The feeling that he put into many of the songs he sang make me well up. No one else has ever done that. This version of Old Man River stands with the best of them and there have been some great performances.

Shirley Jones (who should know) said the Gordon MacRae had the most beautiful voice she'd ever heard. It's hard to disagree. A wonderful voice now silenced by cancer, fortunately for us, these recordings live on.

I've gotta admit I have never heard this great mans version until the other day and I ain't stopped playing it since,its a very powerfull performance of this Kern song the best i've ever heard by a long way by a much missed live performer...

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL! This has to be the BEST rendition of the song, I have always been a fan of Gordon McRae since I saw Carousel when I was 12 in 1956, he had such a gorgeous voice and WHAT a body and face!

These old recordings do no justice to Gordon's beautiful voice..He could really belt out a song..but nevertheless, he still sounds great! What a voice! What a man! ♥♥
