Gordon's voice is great, but there is wear and tear with age. Gordon said in an interview that a part of his longevity is the fact that he creates his own material. That is part of the answer, surely, but talent and heart have much to do with it, and the fact that he is as good a storyteller as there is, similar to his female couterpart, the beautiful and also great weaver of stories, the marvellous Joni Mitchell.

"In the days gone by I came to believe... everything is trust, all the rest is dust." If it were still an honorable music business someone big would have recorded this song. It is deserving of more recognition. Gord's voice is weak in spots but the instrumentation is beautiful. The lyrics are beautiful. He's singing it from the heart. If you listen with your heart then there is quite a connection. Typical Gordon Lightfoot.
