Those few of us who know & appreciate GL's music, poetry, et al are truly lucky...Sooooo much bad shit masquerading as "music" and "lyrics" Good to have a safe home to come to now and then....

Mark is right. Terry added so much to GL's recordings. He was a great musician and will be missed. RIP

Whether by design or he just wanted to play "his" songs to the detriment of his level of stardom, Gordon never fit into a "category"...not country, not rock, maybe folk but folk is dead. He wasn't Dylan or Denver. He was just a real cool Canadian.

Underrated and simple song by Gord. What a BEAUTIFUL Songwriter this man is, and it sooooooo cool that he just happens to be CANADIAN.

My other favorite line is: "Taking dead aim on fortune and fame, you might say..."

attaremad, Thankyou. Your GORD posts are EXCELLENT. The best line in this song (in my opinion) is so simple yet so humbling; "Playing guitar doesn't make you a star anyway."

attaremad you are fast becoming a great friend of mine due to your Lighfoot videos. This song takes me back to a special place and time. Not sure where you reside but if you are ever in the Tupelo, Mississippi area let me know. Would like to talk some Lightfoot over a cold one!

I never have even heard of those rare songs. I think I have a 45 rpm that was his first recording, the song is titled "Spin Spin Spin". I also have a K Tel album which is a compilation of many of his early folk stuff, like Mountains And Marianne, Bitter Green, Long Way Back Home, songs like that. I don't even have a turntable to play the Lightfoot records. He said he does not like his early songs at all.

Thank you. You must have the biggest and best collection of Lightfoot songs. I was hooked on him immediately when one of my sisters played me his first album in 1970. It was produced in 1966 I think, and just titled "Lightfoot". I heard "Steel Rail Blues" and was hooked. When he became a BIG star in 1970 with "If You Could Read My Mind", I was in HEAVEN !!! No one like him.
