Clint Black - Spend my Time

---------------------------

How can we know how far

The long way can be

Looking from where we are

It never seemed that long to me

I've many miles behind me

Maybe not so much ahead

Seems I made good time

With the directions I misread

I'm gonna spend my time

Like it's going out of style

I'm moving the bottom line

Farther than a country mile

I still have hills to climb

Before I hit that wall

No matter how much time I buy

I can never spend it all

Funny thing that time

We're always running out

I'm always losing mine

There's not enough of it about

And though it's always here

It will always come and go

The days become the years

That'll be gone before you know

So I'm gonna spend my time

Like it's going out of style

I'm moving the bottom line

Better than a country mile

I still have hills to climb

Before I hit that wall

I won't go quietly into

that dark night

There'll be no more burning daylight

I'll be living in

Every moment that I'm in

I'm gonna spend my time

Like it's going out of style

I'll only use what's mine

I've been saving for a while

I still have hills to climb

Before I hit that wall

No matter how much time I buy

I can never spend it all

No matter how much time we buy

We can never spend it all

After an eight day coma in A Little Rock hospital in 2011, following an aortic dissection.. I awoke to see my daughter Kristens smile. She and my lovely wife Julie had alternated and kept watch over me during what must have been an ordeal for both of them. Kristen had her own young children, and a tornado had devastated family members homes back in Alabama, but she had made the trip to help Julie through the possibility that I might not awaken. By Gods grace, I had survived the heavy odds and the surgery and 20% survival rate of a torn aorta, an event which dooms many victims during short trips to the emergency room across town or many hours on the operating table. but somehow I had been lucky, as I had been on numerous occasions throughout a life filled with injuries, totaled cars via drunk drivers, and the aging process. This song cycled through my mind repeatedly and thoughts om my lovely Julie were all that kept me alive as I wondered where life would take me and if Id be a cripple. I eventually recovered, learned to walk again with the help of the Good Lord , Julie, and very capable physical therapists who taught me how to walk again after weeks bedridden. A normal life would have been ideal but Ive been luckier, lucky to once again enjoy the joys of marriage, more grandchildren, and even to have returned to my softball team for league and tournament play once again. Ill never forget this song for when it accompanied me during a very heavy duty near death episode and aided my spirit in regaining my life. After seeing the horro and relief on Julies face, the nature of the close call was there for all to see. I remain grateful and thankful for my blessings and the remembrance of the spirit of this fine song.

Spend My Time says what I feel on the road. Time by Pink Floyd regrets time lost. Spend My Time has no regrets, just treasure time and enjoy spending time that never runs out. As a Harley rider, hitting that wall is disturbing, but every moment until then is a joy, like this song.

One of my favorite country songs. I have loved country music since I was a small boy. BTW, I am an African American male, who grew up in New York City in the 70s. I am a jazz, classical, and sacred music singer, but country just speaks to me, like truth.
