Magnificent live rendition of the Antonín Leopold Dvořák adaptation - Going Home. From the live concert at Carnegie Hall in New York, 1958. I neglected to mention that the lyricist for this song was brilliant William Arms Fisher!

Paul Robeson was my role model, second only to my father. His voice and music are eternally glorious.

Dvorak did Not write the words to this piece. It was written by William Ash Fischer, an African American composer.

It wasn't until I was past fifty that Mr. Robeson didn't write this and it was Largo.

This is proof positive that a great man who experienced bad things at the hands of an ignorant society can love us all. He wrapped us in thrilling music and held his head up in a dignity that has not been recreated since his days on earth.

Wonderful man with a magnificent voice. My mother was lucky enough to see him in concert. I was always envious of that.

No one seems to understand that this "song" is lifted from the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony from the New World which he wrote at the University of Iowa in the late 1890s. It's a beautiful piece full of native American melodies. Odd that it took a Czech to write it. One of his students put words to the music with Dvorak's approval.
