The Go-Go's - We Got The Beat (Stiff Single Version 1980).

Original version of the classic track recorded in 1980 and released in the U.K on Stiff Records in May of that year while the group was supporting The Specials on a tour of England.

This sped-up, punkier version of the song is much more true to the band's original Buzzcocks inspired sound, than the slowed sown and slicked up version they would do for their debut albm "Beauty And The Beat" in 1981 with veteran girl-group producer Richard Gottehrer. What many people don't remember is that this version of the song is what started the Go-Go's phenomenon by crossing the Atlantic to America and becoming a huge underground dance hit. On the basis of import sales alone, this single charted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Dance Chart - an impressive feat for a then unsigned band.

This is like when you're wife comes home with a totally different look like radically different hair/glasses or something. You know deep down it's still the same great woman but it's like you're seeing her in a whole new way. Can't believe I never heard this cut, it kicks ass!

Replayability

I get the feeling that some people would like this even if it was nothing but white noise. "I don't go for that pop crap. I love nothing but white noise. I make the music with my mind because I'm an advanced hipster. The unwashed masses make me sick. I'm so much better than they are. I'm so far above the rabble that I might as well be God."

BOTH versions are awesome. Actually I think on the better known single the bass sounds clearer. In any case the tune in itself is a win.
