The song Go Away off of his CD So-Lo. (Oingo Boingo.)

Lyrics:

Every time I see you now it makes me feel so bad

Reminds me of the memories I wish I never had

Standing in a crowded room too dark for me to see

Someone's pushing from behind, just leave me room to breathe

And go away from me, just go away

To another time, another place

To another world, another dream

Go away from me...

Walking down the sidewalk in a crowd that doesn't care

Bumping into shoulders every eye is on the street

There's a man with tattered clothes who's cursing at the air

Everyone is slowing down to catch a little peak

Just go away from me, just go away

To another time, another place

To another world, another dream

Go away from me...

Every time I wake up and I see myself again

Staring in the mirror like a burnt out piece of wood

Searching every feature for a single trace of life

Couldn't find the answer 'cause the mirror never lies

Just go away from me, just go away

To another time, another place

To another world, another dream

Go away from me, just go away...

Go away from me, just go away

To another time, another place

To another world, another dream

Go away from me...

Go away from me, just go away...

*Now is that gratitude?*I've had Danny Elfman's song *Gratitude* running through my head at random times today. I decided to listen through the entirety of *So-Lo* because of it. It's got a flavor all its own that really must be sampled to be appreciated. Then I got to this song... Now, I'm not in a bad mood at all, but this is a wholesale reminder of harder days past. :) I love the layering and musicality of Danny Elfman's work. But I what I love the most the palpable emotions sitting sometimes on the surface ... and sometimes just below.

His voice is always so haunting. I've loved this man's music in every incarnation.

Only 77 people have heard this? shit. Also concerning the verse "The mirror never lies"...in case you haven't already seen -- the right side of your face - is the left side of your face, in a mirror. Check it out. Reminds me of Ozzy "The mirror tells me lies..."

@chets808 I ended up collecting all the 12" mixes because like with Stay, I found out I liked that better than the original. Funny how we get hooked on a certain version of a song, and that's it for us....My OBSS card (fingers crossed) should be in my "Folders of Doom" where I kept all my clippings, photos, newsletters and stickers. At least, I think so....at least, I hope so!

@ladyssnape I think I still have my OBSS card around here somewhere. ha! I remember when the CD finally came out, how disappointed I was with Gratitude. I stopped listening to my tapes from vinyl and had to "wait" until the interwebs caught up and allowed me to track down the original. the Radio mix has been permanently deleted from my computer/ipod. Its dead to me. Just driving home from work yesterday, Something Isn't Right randomly came on...good music never gets old. :)

@chets808 Charlie Unkeless was the head of the OBSS (Oingo Boingo Secret Society - fanclub), and merchandising, and lighting. Carl Graves was the keyboard player at that time. P.S. The Gratitude version on CD is the "Radio Mix" which had the spoken part cut out. It sucks. Who doesn't want to hear Danny say "I used to eat little girls like you for breakfast"?

This is my second favorite song off of So-Lo. It really showcases him as a really good emotional singer without all the R&B frills I hate so much that other singers do.

My dad used to make fun of me for liking Danny Elfman...I was playing this song one day and he runs in the room "are u listening to Ooing Boing!?!?" and after i said yes, he's like "They were my favorite band in high school!".....I told him that Danny Elman's singing...He now doesn't make fun of my likes :)

I'm 17 years old, and I absolutely love Oingo Boingo. Danny Elfman is someone I would very much like to meet...

This was the best Boingo recod, even though it's supposed to be solo, It's still Bartek and Elfman all the way. Always thought it was the forgotten follow up to Good For Your Soul. LOVE IT!

P.S. the gratitude on the CD was not the same as the vinyl....but that version can be easily found (its the bits with "i used to chew up rocks and spit out gravel") which was re-inserted when they did Alive. I should know. I wrote to OB headquarters in 1985/6 requesting this on CD. Got a return letter from someone named Carl.

@Robinzorz Insanity was great live, they had the puppets suspended from the ceiling singing the children's chorus parts (if i recall through my haze correctly)
