Boulder, CO is home of the University of Colorado Buffaloes. That's where the name "Boulder Buff" comes from. Boulder's campus sports the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

I've seen in print, probably Geo. T. Simon's biography of Miller and the orchestra, that Miller got C's and D's in music theory at Boulder, and didn't graduate. But so what: the wealth of recorded music he left us proved once again that "only the good die young."

@jlassie I can only assume it's named after the Buffaloe, the Mascot of the U of Colorado Boulder where Miller went to college.

No, it's definitely "buff", and I've still never been able to figure out what the name means. I spent a few years growing up in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, where GM attended high school - it's possible that it's named after the city of Boulder, CO, but that would just be a guess...
