On this day in 1965 {October 9} Glen Campbell performed "Universal Soldier" on the ABC-TV program "Shindig!'... Two weeks earlier on September 25th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #45 and spent 7 weeks on the Top 100... And on the same day that Glen's version entered the Top 100, Donovan's version also entered the chart, his version reached #53 and also stayed 7 weeks on the chart R.I.P. I will always love Glen Campbell for being the Texas Ranger who saved the life of John Wayne in a shootout with the bad guys and sacrificed his life rescuing the hostage he'd previously spanked for foolishly disregarding the reasonable advice of her public servants, A formerly blacklisted Communist woman wrote the screenplay. Glen's a good American.

I spent 20 years in the US Army. Every year I had a Geneva Convention class on what was or wasn't an ethical use of lethal force against those who use lethal force against others. Every day I heard all sides of every conflict the politicians couldn't settle without soldiers freely spoken on tv stations protected by US soldiers and every four years I voted. We are all responsible for our own choices. When I didn't consider an order ethical I didn't obey it. That was my legal and ethical duty.

I just love this version of Universal Soldier - one of the best by Glen Campbell. Just had to add it to my favourites. Iconic song - true today as it was back then in the 1960's. Will we ever learn!
