"When they came to this land" Hmmm the natives were here first and then came the Anglo Saxon. Very emotional song but historically incorrect.

When they came to this landWe gave our friendship, gave them our handsBut it was never to be, oh, you must bow downThey said, "Fall to your knees"Oh, diamond sun has to burnOh, are we never to learnOh, love gives life and life is loveBut what have we doneWe have walked on this earthSince the first star was shiningAnd the moon had its birthBut as with the shadowsOf lonely treesWe are in bondageBut our hearts are still freeOh, diamond sun has to burnOh, are we never to learnOh, love gives life and life is loveBut what have we doneStill diamond sun has to burnOh, are we never to learnStill diamond sun has to burnIn my heart I believeSomeday the sun will shineYou shall be freeAnd bless our childrenAs they're put to the testYou'll feel the heartbeatOf a nation's unrestOh, diamond sun has to burnOh, are we never to learnOh, love gives life and life is loveBut what have we doneOh, love gives life and life is loveWhat have we done, what have we done

First time I heard this song was when I bought the tape from a truck stop display for 5 dollars, I had the tape for about 8 years until Lost it while moving from MN to WYO. I sure wish I could find another one, I really liked this song.

"They came to this land,We gave our friendship,Gave them a hand......Thank you to Glass Tiger. This was a brave and courageous undertaking to write and record a song that tells the truth of the beginning when Europeans first came to this land. Of the sickness and death the newcomers experienced because they could not cope with this new wilderness. We took them in, fed, clothed them, nursed them back to health and taught them how to survive in this climate. We hoped for a lasting friendship with these, our White brothers, but........"it was never to be."Glass Tiger. Nia:wenOna.

Heard this one on the radio as well :) Oh the memories, like getting busted stealing a Glass Tiger tape at 15, from a woolco? maybe. Skipped school that day with a bunch of girls I didn't really know too. My life of crime and running with a gang all shot to hell in one day. :)

Love, love , love this song, Every time I hear it on radio (oldies 70's 90's station) I have to crank it up loud. Thought I'd see if it was here, Can't remember if I ever saw the video but it is outstanding. Still my fave of all Glass Tigers songs

I served 8 months in Afghanistan, this is the only group of Canadians that came over during my tour to put on a performance, along with some retire NHLers. This is something that they have done several times during Canadian Afghan mission. Good on them, much appreciated by the troops.
