Released in April of 1964 as the B side to "He's My Little Devil", "I Wish I Knew What Dress To Wear" managed to garner a spot on the Billboard Charts in the "Bubbling Under" column at #130. Unfortunately buried by changing tastes in music (The British Invasion was in full gear) it went no higher than that; then going barely unnoticed until it was rediscovered decades later. It is now considered a classic of that era,a quintessential example of the girl group sound. Fans of that genre were quick to embrace it for its combination of teen girl pathos, clever lyrics, irresistible melody and most significantly for its heartbreaking vocals by the one and only Ginny Arnell. Tenderly, she delivers each lyric with heartwrenching

honesty, weaving a convincing teenage drama that harks back to a more innocent era.

Ginny Arnell , like Babs Tino and Bernadette Caroll, were talented young teen pop/light rock singers who never quite got their due. I love the better-known and remembered Connie Francis...but I just wish these singers also got their due. Ironically, it's the young folks today (who are into retro, that is) who are recognizing these ladies for their talent.

@9284vr Thanks, Ginny is such a wondeful singer and person, it was my most heartfelt tribute to her. A hugely underrated artist.

Boopkid your video is fantastic as it plus Ginny and her touching voice and song make us all think back to highschool heartaches.

@wareidav I, too, love this softer side of Rock n' Roll. Thankfully, even today there are occasional shows re-creating the feel of those more innocent days. For example, type in "romance set show sampler" and you will see some gals whose voices harmonize quite sweetly.

Im a guy, and I love this song. Most of us know what the pain of a teenage break up feels like. When my first girlfriend broke up with me, the last thing that I wanted was to bump into her, and I didn't until 41 years later and it still felt awkward. Thank You (boopkid) for posting, this Ginny Arnell classic.

@9284vr I agree, the song, the voice, the imagery it conjures up are great, and that is why I tried to match the images to the song so exactly. I love Ginny, her voice is magical, melodic and full of emotion.

Everything about this song is genius-a seriously under-appreciated and badly promoted singer-this video is very cute-and I'm a straight guy! Ginny please re-issue this song today, promote it well and make lots of money!
