At first, I listened to this song and judged the singer as a whiner. This is because I was taught that a man never shows his feelings; if he does, he is weak. As I grew older, I realized the people who disparage songs like this are indeed the ones who are weak. A strong person acknowledges when there is a problem and asks for help, not worrying about what others think. Orson Wells said, "We are born alone. We live alone. We die alone." This is true, but I choose to believe that even though I am older and alone, that I can use my life and experiences to help others. Even if it is just a smile to the individual who bags my groceries, I find that the more joy I give, the more joy I have inside. And even though I may be alone, I am less lonely because joy is a dear companion.
