This is an interesting ballad from Gilbert`s final album of the Seventies SOUTHPAW - which was released in 1977 by MAM . It would be three years before the next release - OFF CENTRE - that came out on CBS in 1980. This song has a very simple but haunting arrangement , and facinating lyrics touching on subjects like the environment and our own mortality . One of Gilbert`s `deeper ` compositions .

There more than enough 'reality" in life to write and sing about,, GS is able to tap into life and spin it into golden cloth, for us to see, feel, reflect on and of course,, as gold does,, make us feel the splendor!

@enginebelly I`m sure he will - music is what he lives for . It`s the wide range of material that impresses me , from the humourous songs to the ` deeper` songs like this one.

This is just great. Gilbert at his best. Capturing every emotion and some we miss. This song writer will go on all long as there is breath in his body. Brilliant.

@Bigbryan1984 Bryan - It`s so nice to hear from you again. Yes some of these songs certainly make you think - and smile occasionally ! I`m glad you still find the time to drop by now and then. I hope career wise things are going well and thanks again for the kind words.

Mowhawk.... seriously... in moments of reflection in my life I need only come onto your channel and listen to some of Gilberts songs I may not have heard before... like this one. Guaranteed to feed the soul. Many thanks as always. =O)

@globe255 Like the saying goes " the only certain thing about life is death " . Gilbert is never afraid to talk about any subject and I admire him for that.

Its more a saying than a song. I guess it doesnt took many of Gilberts braincells to do that. Not a thing you are looking forward to hear next time (just my meaning). Fairly good composition of pic.

@RAYalized Yes Nicole - I`ve often wondered if that was a true story - his sister trying to eat a piece of glass - it`s such a strange thing to put in a song ! Maybe a real childhood memory ....
