This delightful and whimsical little song came as quite a surprise as the closing track on Gilbert`s excellent 1982 album LIFE AND RHYMES . It`s one of those brilliant orchestral arrangements that he loves to do occasionally - and the lyrics are great ! Gilbert has often said he loves the old silent movie era , and in fact his early image with the cap, boots, jacket etc and even the `Gilbert ` character he created were inspired by Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin . So what better way to present this charming song than with footage of one of Gilbert`s heroes !

@RWillemM Yes as I`ve said it`s one of my favourite albums . It also has one of my favourite ever ballads , the wonderful ` Got to be that way ` . That`s a song I wish he would sing live again .

What a wonderful song and beautifull the lyrics!! Had more or less forgotten this gem, so listened to Life&Rhymes today: it really shows the Master, with "Looking (a tale of two meanings", "Has been", "I promise honest", "Is it a crime?" and this lovely, orchestral "At least Í'm honest"! Thanks, also, to Graham Gouldman, who understood Gilbert's music perfectly!!

@Ulrika44Sweden I would say Life and Rhymes is my second favourite album - just behind Off Centre . This particular track is wonderful - what an imagination Gilbert has . Thanks Ulrika .

I spent ages looking for Life and Rhymes on eBay. It rarely turned up as LP and I don´t have any vinyl player.... Finally I had it recorded to CD myself, quite an expence. And now you can buy it easily from Bygumrecords!!!

@aldridgeo Thanks Andy - It`s funny but I`ve just been listening to Gilbert talking to Steve Wright on Radio 2 about how he loved Chaplin and Keaton and would go to the cinema when they showed seasons of their movies , He called it a ` magical era `. His early image partly came from those people. So I think he would approve of this video .

absolutely. Talking of Gilbertville i am working hard on part 2 of the GOS story and one or two treats in store. I will not put it on you tube until a) the album is out and you know why and b) until i have it to the standard and perfection i want. I have some good ideas which i am presently putting together and i shall embarrass an interviewer who shall remain nameless for not researching his subject, (Ray) That's all i will say, but it will be something you will have never heard presented b4

@RAYalized I`ve wanted to use this track for ages Nicole but couldn`t think how . The music has a ` vintage ` feel about it and then I remembered how Ray was inspired by those old movie characters . Buster is a legend - years ahead of his time !

clever song as one would expect and the footage you have used to accompany the song is extremely clever and inventive. My favourite bit is the guy running for the bus because he must be Roger Bannister to tun at that speed and lucky the pavements were free of people!!!!! that was so funny and all the old vehicles and taxis etc.
